New York features 43 ski areas, more than any other state in the US. 10 ski areas would be considered destination resorts. Top destinations include Whiteface, Gore Mountain, Windham, Hunter Mountain and Belleayre. Larger destinations tend to be in the Adirondacks as well as the Catskill Mountains. 5 ski resorts are within a 3 hour or less drive from New York City.

Cockaigne Ski Area is a family ski area located in western New York's snow belt 18 miles from Lake Erie. Cockaigne's combination of slopes (300 feet wide) and New England style trails (15 feet wide) provide abundant snow time for the whole family. Reopened in 2020/2021.

Find skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing in Watertown, New York. Dry Hill Ski Area is a tiny ski resort with one lift serving 35 acres of terrain. With it's size it is suitable for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboards but even though it's small there is a terrain park. There is also a tubing area for more snow fun.
