Ontario Resorts

Many of the province's ski resorts are concentrated in southern Ontario within driving distance of the province's capital city of Toronto. Blue Mountain, Ontario's largest resort is located in Collingwood about 2 hours north of Toronto. The modest variety of terrain is a great place for beginners and intermediate skiers to hone their skills. Horseshoe and Mount St. Louis are also popular destinations from Toronto. Mount Pakenham and Calabogie are the closest Ontario resorts to Ottawa with Calabogie offering the highest vertical in the province at 780 feet.

Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain is Ontario's largest year round destination ski resort located in Collingwood about 2 hours north of Toronto. Being a midsize ski area it's a great place for beginner and intermediate skiers. Blue Mountain's three freestyle zones including the Terrain Park deliver the full range of features from beginner rails to super-pipes. Continue skiing at night on the 30 lit trails. Ski and snowboard with scenic views of the Niagara Escarpment, browse the village boutique stores or enjoy a meal at one of the multitude of dining options. Blue Mountain is routinely ranked as one of the top family-friendly resorts in Canada. There's a lot to do off the slopes at Blue Mountain. Skate on the Mill Pond, take a guided snowshoe tour, fly down the Hike N' Tube, relax in the hot tubs or take a scenic ride up in the summer gondola. For a hill thrill take a ride on the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster.

Horseshoe Resort is a popular southern Ontario ski destination spread over 680 acres offering four seasons full of activities for the entire family. It is located in a natural snow belt just one hour north of Toronto off Highway 400 north of Barrie. Along with downhill skiing and snowboarding there are 40km of Nordic ski trails groomed for classic and skate skiing. Head over to the slopes after sunset for night skiing. The terrain park includes loads of features plus a permanent ski/snowboard cross course. Other outdoor activites include the increasingly popular sport of snowshoeing, snow tubing, fat biking, skating, snowmobiling, swimming in the outdoor pools and relaxing in the full-service Shizen Spa. Horseshoe has a variety of dining options offering a quick snack to a gourmet experience.

Mount St. Louis Moonstone is a popular destination for Toronto area skiers located in the snow belt region of Ontario just north of Barry. There are no accommodations on site but you can find lots of lodging options close by. This family-friendly, family owned resort offers terrain for the beginner as well as the advanced skier/snowboarder. There is night skiing. Find two base chalets with cafeterias, rental shops and boutiques. Snowboarders have the option of 3 terrain parks.

Calabogie is an alpine and cross country ski resort located about 45 minutes west of Ottawa. Although not as large as Blue Mountain, Calabogie boasts the highest vertical drop in Ontario at 780 feet along with 22 trails, 2 quads and ski-in ski-out accommodations. Also, the resort has the longest green trail in Ontario. The Slopestyle Terrain Park and Mogul Fields is located where people from the base lodge and chairlifts can view the jumps, bumps and action.
